Alchymia Distillery Newsletter Nov 2023
Hello Spirit Lovers,
A quick update on what’s been happening here at the Distillery on the beautiful NW Coast of Tassie!
We have been busy as always at the distillery. The main building project that MPH has been working on is our new bond store and experience room to mature our Whisky! The old building on site was built as a piggery and then used to house Jack’s sheep dogs but of course in true MPH style it has now been transformed into the most amazing space !! We will be moving all of our casks over the next couple of weeks and we will then do a Grand Opening for all of our Alchemist Academy Private Cask members as the new centre table will be where they will taste their new make moving forward when they join us for their regular private tastings during the maturation of their Whisky. The transformation is some of his best work to date and using and recycling materials left over from the build of the distillery has been a focus as always to ensure that nothing goes to waste.
Once we have moved all the casks from the current bond store we can then move onto the pizza oven project!! So building the prep kitchen and oven. The recipe trials on the bases using our flour from our barley have been in full swing over the last 3 months and as you can imagine it’s been a real chore for MPH to have to eat Pizza every week !! Ha ha so ….watch this space ..we will let you know once it is built and tested and ready to fire up!!
Winter Events.
Mount Gnomon
This winter was quieter than last at the Tasting Room as people shook off the fear of covid and travelled further afield, so we made the decision to do some off site events for Tasmanian Whisky week we teamed up with Sandy Gray Whisky co and Hellyers Road to do a spirit and food matched dinner at Mount Gnomon Farm and it was a sell out !! Jefferey, their French chef, did an amazing job pairing the spirits with each course. We showcased our Chilli Vodka and Coffee Liqueur! While Hellyers covered off the whisky and Sandy Gray the Gin, a great NW Distilleries showcase!
The Vault
We did our first Gin tasting event partnering with our friends at The Vault Café & Bar in Wynyard on the 8th September launching our new Spring Gin and working with Paul their head chef to pair our other Gin’s with an amazing menu!! We had a great night and look forward to when we can do a Whisky tasting event next year. Huge Thanks Penny and the team at The Vault and everyone who braved the cold weather to join us for the event.
Tulip Festival
We then attended the Tulip Festival in Wynyard which draws 20K+ people to Wynyard for this one day extravaganza!! MPH had to build a festival bar and we had a great day finished off with an amazing firework display at 9pm well done to Waratah Wynyard Council for pulling off such an important event for our area, we will definitely be back next year. Thanks to everyone who came and said Hi and supported us on the day!
Online Gin Shop to open next week
We are excited to announce the opening of our online shop at the end of next week for our 2 core Gins only at this stage our London Dry and Ginger and Lemongrass Gin will both be available to order online on a tab on the website www.alchymiadistillery.com so if you have run out of your favourite Alchymia Distillery Gin and can’t make it to the tasting room then head online.
New Releases
We released our new Spring Gin at the beginning of Oct, using Pink Peppercorns, Elderflower and Mandarin Orange for the first time. It has been really well received and was our best selling Gin in October knocking our London Dry off its top spot!! Designed for a longer drink for the warmer longer days drop into the tasting room and let us know what you think.
Pink Gin is going back into production next week so that will be ready to go for the beginning of December and of course we will see the release of our Christmas Gin too just in time for those all important Chrissy gifts.
It’s getting close to our first release.
First Whisky Release Update
We are very excited to have diarised our next Whisky tasting for MPH and I to start the process of selecting our first cask that will be released next April we haven’t tasted them for 6 months so we are really keen to see how they have developed over the last 6 months….watch this space as we will be opening the registrations for purchasing a bottle of our first release of our Tasmanian small batch handcrafted single malt single cask Whisky made right here at Table Cape!!
